We're Fighting Back: Besieged B'klyn neighbors are rallying to end street violence

Word on the street is that the violence sweeping through my Crown Heights neighborhood - and other parts of central Brooklyn - is fueled by angry, ignorant youngsters who've gotten their hands on weapons.

In a neighborhood with too few fathers, too many boys grow up with little learning and no idea how to control their minds and emotions.

Add drugs and access to weapons and you have the makings of the kind of nightmare that took the life of Carol Simon, a working mom who walked into the middle of a gunfight.

Simon, who died five blocks from my front door on Saturday, is just the latest casualty of street violence.
