Shooting During Robbery on Albany Avenue (79th Precinct)

On Saturday April 16, 2011 at approximately 2023 hours, inside of an Auto Repair Shop located at 74 Albany Avenue, within the confines of the 79 Precinct, police responded to a call of shots fired.  Upon arrival it was determined that an off duty Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority Police Officer was inside of the location when four to five males entered armed with firearms and announced a robbery.  

As the suspects were removing property from the victims they realized the TBTA officer was armed and they began to assault him; the TBTA officer drew his firearm and shots were exchanged.  During the gunfire the TBTA Officer was struck once in the left shoulder.  One suspect, a M/B/19 was found in front of the location with a gunshot wounds to the leg and shoulder.  EMS responded and transported this suspect to Kings County Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  

A second suspect identified as a M/B/21 walked into Interfaith Hospital with gunshot wounds to the neck and face; he is now listed in stable condition.  The injured TBTA Officer was transported to Kings County Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  

A Hi-Point 9mm firearm was recovered in front of 58 Albany Avenue.  The remaining suspects fled the location; the investigation is ongoing.
