Tot sees mom slashed to death
BY JOTHAM SEDERSTROM, ALISON GENDAR and TAMER EL-GHOBASHY
NY DAILY NEWS 5/13/08
A Brooklyn mom strapping her baby boy into his car seat for a trip to a day care center was viciously murdered Monday by her boyfriend, cops said.
Police sources said Aisha Bristol, 27, was slashed across her throat about 7 a.m. on Hart St. near Lewis Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant by a man who later called police and confessed to the killing - before ingesting poison.
Cops found the mom lying dead next to the Toyota Yaris with a bloody kitchen knife nearby, as her 1-year-old son Nehemiah sat in his car seat.
"It's too much to take in," said Bristol's cousin, Roberta Smith, 29. "Right now we're just mourning."
Law enforcement sources said the suspect in the murder is a personal trainer.
Smith said Bristol met the man about a year ago at a gym but wasn't aware the two were romantically involved. She said the man often trained Bristol at her Pulaski St. apartment.

Police: Bandits held up residents on the 3rd & 4th floor of the same building
Eyewitness News
CROWN HEIGHTS (WABC) -- Residents of two apartments, one floor apart, were held up in rapid succession by busy bandits in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn Monday morning.
Police say the residents in both apartments were tied up by the suspects, who used the fire escape to quickly travel between the floors inside 915 Washington Avenue.
The first victim was reportedly accosted at gunpoint by masked men in his fourth floor hallway. The suspects then reportedly shoved him into his apartment and tied him up with flexi rope while they ransacked his apartment.
The masked men made their getaway out the window, and scaled the fire escape to a third floor apartment. They then broke into an apartment on that floor, and tied up a man and two women inside, according to police.
Eyewitness News is told the suspects stole goods from that apartment before fleeing the scene. They got away with electronics, jewelry and cash from both apartments.
Officials say one of the residents inside the third floor apartment, a man, was treated for injuries.
Authorities are now hunting the suspects, who fled on the street, which borders the east side on Prospect Park.

Cop's son found slain in Brooklyn
BY TANANGACHI MFUNI, ETHAN ROUEN and LEO STANDORA
NY DAILY NEWS 05/2/08
The 18-year-old son of a New York City cop was stabbed to death in the hallway of a Brooklyn apartment building Thursday night, police sources said.
Police found the victim, Renato Scantlebury, bleeding heavily from his wounds in the Bushwick building shortly after 6p.m. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Woodhull Hospital.
A tenant said that just an hour earlier, Scantlebury had gotten into a fistfight with two men outside the building after he made a snide comment about their T-shirts.
"He died over that?" said the stunned tenant.
Witnesses told investigators they saw two or three men fleeing from the scene at 1160 Gates Ave.
Scantlebury lived a few blocks away on Kosciuszko St. with his mother, Police Officer Lisa Wade, who works in recruitment for the NYPD, sources said.
A man who identified himself as the victim's father said the 6-foot-tall teen was an aspiring rapper who doted on his 1-year-old daughter.
"He wanted a good life for his little girl," the dad said. "He was working at a Chuck E. Cheese downtown, but he had a demo out and was hoping it would be his big break."
"He was just a good kid," the dad said.
Safety Alert: Brower Park (77th Precinct)
Yesterday [Thursday 5/1/08] our babysitter had my 2 year old at the Brower Park playground, where we go regularly. Around 4 PM a young boy (12 or so) was beaten badly by a group of older young men (early 20s). Apparently, the boy was laying in a pool of blood, and was dragged away by a couple friends. My babysitter said she and other adults there were screaming and crying for the assailants to stop (they didn't), and called the police, who came about 15 minutes later. I called the 77th precinct yesterday and spoke to someone in community affairs, who promised he would, "call me right back" with more information. I still haven't heard from him 24 hours later. It's amazing how millions can be spent on the Children's Museum (around next to the playground) yet there is rarely a noticeable police presence around the park, nor park employees there regularly during daylight hours (from what I've seen).
